WC insurer

QueenslandWorkers compensation

The insurer that handles a workers compensation claim. In Queensland it is WorkCover Queensland for most employers and a self insurer for some large ones.

A Queensland workers compensation claim is lodged with the WC insurer, which decides whether to accept it, pays weekly benefits and treatment, and later assesses permanent impairment. Large employers licensed to self insure handle their own workers’ claims under the same legislation.

This definition is specific to Queensland. The same term can work differently in another state, and the glossary marks each entry accordingly.
