Degree of permanent impairment

QueenslandWorkers compensation

The percentage assessed at the end of a Queensland statutory claim that sets the lump sum offer and affects the common law election.

Once the injury is stable the WC insurer arranges an assessment of the degree of permanent impairment, or DPI. The notice of assessment that follows sets out the lump sum on offer and, depending on the percentage, whether accepting it closes off a common law claim. Advice before responding to the notice is essential.

This definition is specific to Queensland. The same term can work differently in another state, and the glossary marks each entry accordingly.
