Deed of release

All statesAfter a settlement

The document signed at settlement in which the claimant accepts the settlement sum and releases the insurer from any further claim.

Once a deed of release is signed the claim is finished. It cannot be reopened if the injury worsens, which is why settlement is not agreed until the condition has stabilised and the future needs have been assessed. The deed also records who pays costs and how refunds are handled.
